angimatic asked: I want to buy the Nook Color but have very little knowledge when it comes to technology. I want to know if there are any added fees once I purchase it. Do I have to pay for WIFI? I thought i read somewhere that 3G is free with it. Could you advise?

No, there are no charges for 3g on the Nook or Kindle. But keep in mind that you can only use this to purchase books through their store, you will not be able to surf the internet — which is why it’s free.

Pinterest Worth $4 Billion?

PinterestI just saw a Lowes commercial and they had 3 social media logos: Facebook, YouTube and Pinterest! What happened to Twitter?

You may not know what Pinterest is. Pinterest defines themselves as an online pin board, where you can organize and share the things you love. Think of your very own cork board, but instead it’s online.

Why should you get on Pinterest?

According to the Washington Times, ”Pinterest is the fastest growing social media website in Internet history. Yes, even faster than Facebook.

They further report that “Pinterest is now the number three most-popular social network in the U.S., behind only Facebook and Twitter, according to Experian’s Digital Marketer Trend and Benchmark Report. E”

“Pinterest is starting to influence purchases. According to BlogHer’s annual study on women and social media, 81 percent of the women surveyed trust Pinterest more than Facebook or Twitter.”

The New York Post reports that “Pinterest as a stand-alone company may be worth $550 million, but if a Twitter or Facebook were to make an offer as a defensive move against their competitors, the takeover price could balloon to more than $4 billion, especially in a bidding war.”

Are you on Pinterest yet?

Tumblr: Why Do You Hurt Me So?

I was just editing a long blog post in Tumblr and for some reason, when I clicked “Save”, Tumblr decided it would delete the ladder half of my post.  There is no retrieve button and I was doing a live edit, so now it’s all completely gone.  UGH Another **sigh.

Lesson learned: Next time I’m doing a long edit, I will open up on the post in a new browser window so I have a copy of it.

Blogsourcing From A Home Fitness DVD Addict

I’ve been watching a lot of home fitness DVDs lately and in watching, here are my thoughts on what I think makes for a great home workout DVD:
  • Home workout videos needs to have a time clock count down.  It’s the worst when you don’t know how much time you have left on the workout.
  • Don’t show the “how to” moves during the regular workout; instead, just have the trainer get right into the workout because eventually people are going to become familiar with the workout and aren’t going to want to see this part.
  • More to the point above — include a separate video on the same workout DVD that shows how to properly do each move so the consumer can watch it if they want to. This way, it keeps the regular workouts moving along quickly and when you first get the workouts and aren’t sure how to do them just yet, you can watch this when you need it. Another cool idea—when you’re doing the regular workout, and blurb comes up on the bottom lower third of the DVD that says click here to see the moves broken down and you can click it with your remote and it will take you out of the workout  and into the breakdown video. For example, if you’ve ever put on subtitles during the middle of a movie, it would work similar to this.  I’ve never seen this yet, but would be very cool.
  • Keep each workout less than 60 minutes.  People have a hard time staying focused any longer than that.  40-45 minutes is a perfect amount of time and if the trainer gets right into the workout and keeps moving along quickly, this should be more then enough time for a great, sweaty workout.
  • Name each move on the bottom lower third while trainer is doing the move so the people at home know what’s coming up.
  • A workout program should be a 60 or 90 day program and include a fitness calendar showing what to do on each day. It’s important that a timeframe for transformation is established.  Because I want to know how long it will take me to see the results you’ve shown on your website and/or infomercial.
  • Workout programs should come with a nutrition guide that includes a break down of fats, carbs and proteins and show include examples in each category. There should be a sample shopping list that has perforated edge so you can rip it out, easy recipes with prep times less than 30 minutes and images of every single recipe in your food guide.  There should be an example of at least of 7 days of what you would eat from the time you wake up to the time you go to bed and alternatives next to every single item or it should say “Look in column x to find an alternative to this if you don’t like this item).  A lot of times I see example days and I don’t like what’s listed, but then I don’t know what I should replace it with.  People need to be told exactly what to eat, or they will eat badly.
  • The website for your workout DVDs should have bright Call To Action buttons, testimonials that support your claims and visuals showing people’s Before and After that have done and succeeded at the workout program. If people see your infomercial on TV, they might not be motivated enough to order right then, but may recall it later and end up on your website—make it easy and simple for them to Buy!

*Disclaimer: this is not intended toward any specific brand or company of DVDs. This is just my humble opinion.

I can’t upload a Word Doc or PDF in the Groups Doc Section, Help!

Many people have experienced a let down when they go to upload a document in the “Docs” section of Groups and try to upload a .doc, .docx or .pdf file receiving the message “Your photo did not upload successfully. It may be too large or small, of an unsupported file format, or corrupted. Please try again, or try another photo.”

Yes, it turns out you can unfortunately upload .jpg or .gif files into groups, SO, your two options are:

  1. Copy and paste the text into the Docs section fields OR
  2. Convert your PDF or Word Doc to a JPG and upload that way
Good Luck!

Is it time to covert your personal Facebook profile to a Facebook Fan Page?

Many people ask me how they can “move” some of the people on their personal Facebook profile page over to a new Facebook fanpage they just created. Currently, it is not possible to select and move certain people from your personal Facebook profile to a public fan page. But before you go creating a brand new fanpage, consider converting your current profile to a fanpage and then creating a new personal profile that you will keep private for your “REAL” friends.

If you decide the best route for you is to covert your personal Facebook profile to a Facebook fanpage, follow these steps below:

  • Login to Facebook
  • Go to this link and it should bring you to the page below:

Once done, you’ll have to create a new personal profile account and start adding your “real” friends back to your personal profile.

Q: How do I know if I should convert to a fanpage or create a new fanpage?

If you have more then 500 friends on your personal page and more then half of them are not your true friends, then you should convert your personal profile to a fanpage.

However, if you have less than 500 friends and more then half are your real friends, then I would recommend creating a fanpage and sending messages to the few people on your personal profile that they should keep in touch on your fanpage. Then remove these pseudo friends from your personal profile.

Q: If someone sends a friend request to my personal page, how do I send them to my fanpage?

A: If someone sends you a request to your personal page, just send them a polite message letting them know to please LIKE your new fanpage and for you to keep in touch there. Also, make sure to provide them with your URL to your new fanpage, such as www.facebook.com/socialmediaobsessed!

Good Luck!

Request a name change for your Page

With the new Facebook Timeline, also comes the opportunity to request a name change for your Page. Although, not all fanpages have this option.

In the past, this option was not available at all. Once you set your name, you were pretty much stuck with it.  Now you can at least put in a name change; but whether it’s granted or not is up to Facebook.
